Haven’t had
chance to reset the website for the new season yet, so the important details
from Monday’s AGM are:
Teams
15 teams this year.
·
Champions
Lamb A are retiring.
·
Lamb
B are joining
forces with Albion B as they are each short of players for the coming
season. They will play as Albion B.
·
Halfway
House are moving
again, this time to the Jolly Farmer (Blacknest).
·
All 3 Holly
Bush teams are moving to the Frensham RBL.
PLEASE NOTE: This is Frensham RBL, a little further along Shortfield Road from the Holly Bush, and NOT the nearby Bourne RBL who competed in the League for many years.
That leaves div 2 with the extra team still, so
since it’s div 1’s turn to get the extra games this year the Fox Inn
will be promoted in addition to the usual top 2 teams.
Subs
Remain
unchanged at £65.00 per team.
Cheques to FIQL at the usual address ASAP please!
Dates
First game 4th November 2013. Last game before Christmas 2nd December, restarting 6th January 2014 and finishing 3rd March.
I shall put
the full details up when I redo the website.
Fixtures
will be out as soon as I can!
Any
questions, get in touch!
See you all
soon!
After our last
match of the year we have the Final Results for the Season:
Division 1:
Winners: Lamb ‘A’
Runners-up: Halfway House
Division 2:
Winners: Alfred Free House
Runners-up: Cricketers Badshot Lea
Alfred Free House have attained the rare distinction of winning all their games this season - top stuff there!
The Presentation and BFQ are to be held straight away this year. It’s Division 2’s turn this time round so we’re at the Alfred Free House, on the 15th April (not 15th March as I put with the questions tonight - twit). Proceedings start at 8.30 so please arrive in plenty of time to find a table and get a beer!
As always the BFQ is open to anyone concerned with the quiz - substitutes, questionmasters, landlords - all are welcome.
Also as ever I would ask everyone to let me know how many people are likely to be attending from each team. Thanks.
Hope to see all of you on the 15th (of April!).
With one
game to go the Lamb A have secured the Division 1 title - well done to
Trevor and the rest of the team!
The
Cricketer’s have one hand on promotion
also - it would take some kind of spectacular disaster for them not to be in
Div 1 next year after many years of close but no cigar.
Div 1 runners-up spot is still to play for on the 8th.
And just to let you know, our question setter has gone on holiday this week, which means two things: the results and tables from tonight will not be included in the question pack next week, so you will need to check here if you want to know how hard to try on the last match; and also I have the last week’s questions already and will distribute them in good time but you may not have them quite as early in the week as is usual, so don’t panic!
With 3
rounds still to go the Alfred Free House, who haven’t lost a game all
season, have amassed an unassailable lead over their nearest rivals and will
win Division 2 now come what may.
Well played there folks!
I’ve had
the odd complaint that certain pubs have on occasion had a - what shall we say
- lively ambience that is not really in keeping with quiz matches.
I Know it’s
a bit difficult for the landlord to antagonize paying customers, particularly
if it’s an unexpected crowd, but there should be a bit of give and take
involved. In particular other league sports taking place on Quiz nights should
really show a bit of consideration - they wouldn’t appreciate anyone
interfering with their match. The home quiz teams really should try and sort
such things out with the landlord if they are serious about the League.
Ultimately
though you may just have to make do. I remind you of rule 3.3.i:
Each question must be clearly read
out, so that both teams can hear and understand it
satisfactorily. If factors such as
background noise, unclear question wording or the like
prevent this, the Questionmaster
should repeat all or part of the question as required.
Difficult or ambiguous words should
be spelled if required and proper chance should be
given for any important details to
be jotted down. Only when the question has been
adequately delivered in this way
should timing of the response begin.
That is,
BOTH teams have to have had the chance to hear the full question on the first
reading.
MATCHES TO
GO AHEAD.
Yesterday I went out & about to check on access to the most isolated venues, with no problems. I’ve just checked the Bat & Ball (which I forgot about) and that seems OK, so with no further snow forecast for today I can see no reason for postponing tonight’s fixtures.
If you think otherwise please let me know ASAP!
TV’s ‘Only Connect’ is looking for contestants for the upcoming series. If you’d like to give it a go, applications have to be in quite soon: see this flyer for details.
Ooops! Forgot to upload this morning. Probably because of…
…late results again last night. Non-reporting has become a bit rife this season, it can’t all be down to dodgy mobile reception at a couple of pubs. Please folks, try and get them in nice and early on Mondays.
Anyway, the big story of the day is that Cherry Tree B are moving back to their original home of the Halfway House. All home games after Christmas will be played there.
Revised Fixture List is here, I will contact Div. 1 captains to make sure everyone knows.
Have a great Christmas everyone, see you in the New Year!
Didn’t post results on Monday night as usual due to missing / conflicting results. You know who you are!
Haven’t disqualified any non-reporters yet, don’t really want to start now…
Next week maybe!
And I will really try to get the registration and payment forms out in the next few days.
Where does all the time go? It goes wrong for me!
I’ve just had it pointed out that the post below has the wrong date. Twice. Oh well, at least everyone turned up for their first match tonight.
Hi folks - where does all the time go?
Sorry about all this last-minute rushing around but here at last are the Fixtures and AGM minutes.
Matches start (for most teams) on 5th December as planned. I will be getting the printed details and registration stuff out to the pubs / captains ASAP, but at least we should be able to start now.
For any who don’t yet know The Wheatsheaf teams have both moved to The Albion, which is at the end of East Street opposite the Fire Station and unlike the Wheatsheaf has a car park at the rear. Also this year sees the return of The Crown in Badshot Lea. I’ll update the Pubs page ASAP but they both have websites if you’re not sure where they are.
Good Quizzing on Monday everyone!
