AGM at last.

10/10/12

Another year, another rush to get the new season organised! Apologies to all for the very late notification this time round, this year has just been getting more and more complicated for me.

As before when things have been a bit late I have also e-mailed or texted everyone I have contact details for.

The AGM will be held on Monday 15th October at 8.30pm. This time it is at The Albion (opposite the fire station), which is where my team has moved to this year. The Agenda is here, and as usual topics can be raised and motions put forward on the night.

As always, all are welcome to come and have a say about any aspect of the Quiz and to hear what others are thinking.

I have had an enquiry from The Crown who would like to play, otherwise I have heard nothing from the teams and hope everyone from last year will be playing again. Could I ask everyone to confirm whether or not their team will be playing this year, and also indicate numbers attending the AGM as Mick and Barbara will no doubt lay on some refreshments as usual.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 15th.

Presentation and BFQ at the Wheatsheaf, 26th March

11/03/12

With the venue known in advance this year I‘ve been able to arrange the Presentation and BFQ a little closer to the end of season than usual, so it won’t end up too close to Easter. It’s Division 1’s turn again so we’re at The Wheatsheaf, on the 26th March. Proceedings start at 8.30 so please arrive in plenty of time to find a table and get a beer!

As always the BFQ is open to anyone concerned with the quiz - substitutes, questionmasters, landlords  - all are welcome.

Also as ever I would ask everyone to let me know roughly how many people will be attending. Thanks.

Hope to see all of you on the 26th!

Wheatsheaf A complete Hat Trick

05/03/12

Wheatsheaf A’s win tonight ensures 3 in a row. Can’t say well done to myself of course but I’d like to say cheers to Pat, Ralph, Patrick, Mark and Richard for a job well done!

Well that of course means the BFQ will be back at the Wheatsheaf again his year, I’m trying to get it sorted for 26th March  or 2nd April so that Easter doesn’t get in the way. Watch this space…

And in a weird turn tonight Alfred Free House had to contact their absent team captain, who was away on business, because they couldn’t find my number. This will doubtless be the one and only time I get a result phoned in from MEXICO!

27/02/12

Congratulations to Cherry Tree B on reaching an unassailable lead with two rounds still left to go. 100% result so far can’t be sneezed at - well done folks!

New Fixture List

09/11/11

At last folks the new fixture list is here. Please be sure to replace any copies of the old set, particularly those I sent out to the pubs.

All teams who should have had a home match this week will still start at home, along with the H&H Hares who wouldn’t have played originally. I spoke to each pub with home questions on Monday and asked them to hold onto them for next week, so they won’t need moving about: I’ll drop off a set to the H&H before next Monday. If you get the chance to check your pub still has the questions if required, before Monday evening, that would be great!

Lets hope it all works this time…

Aaagh! Abandon Quiz!

04/11/11

Just as I thought everything was sorted…

My mistake ultimately but I’ve had to cancel the first round of matches this Monday.

I’ve just heard that the Ball & Wicket will not be playing this year. Don’t know why but I had them ticked off my list as “Not coming to AGM but playing again for sure”. Looking back I had no such e-mail or text, and they’ve just told me they can’t raise a team this year.

Since we can’t simply drop those matches (3 byes in Div 1) I’ll have to redo the fixtures. I was hoping to do a crafty re-jig and keep all the home matches the same, albeit against different opponents, but I can’t get hold of some of the teams who would not have been expecting to play next week so decided it was safer to call it off and reschedule. Since this will eliminate the byes and cut 4 weeks from the schedule it’s not too bad in the long run I suppose.

Since the Ball & Wicket had just won entry to Div 1 we need another promotion and so Alfred Free House move up. I’ll finalise the new fixtures tomorrow hopefully.

Also please hold onto the questions from this week. I’ll come round and pick up any that aren’t in the right place for next week.

I’m trying to contact everyone I can, but if anyone reading this could let me know they’ve seen it that would be most handy and if they could let their pub know, especially if they were expecting a home game on Monday, that would be great.

AGM Results and New Season

31/10/11

Mucho apologies for the delay in getting this finalised and out to you all. It seems that each year I have more and more work on at about this time and everything catches up with me…

Anyway, AGM wasn’t too controversial - minutes are here. The application from the Alton team was withdrawn so there wasn’t much to be debated.

There will be one extra team this year, from the Hare & Hounds. They want the teams to be known as H&H Hares and H&H Hounds, which is fine by me. I think the existing team will be the Hares but I may be wrong. It was decided that the extra team would be accommodated in Div 2, partly because the last time this occurred Div 1 had the extra team and hence the extra games. Although it wasn’t discussed as a rule change as such I have decided to formalise this principle as an addition to rule 4.3.ii.

In addition the Fox A has moved to the Holly Bush, which is back where they were some time ago. This results in 3 teams at that pub and therefore 2 home fixtures at times but it was agreed that the 2 bars were sufficiently separate for this not to be a problem, although the start times should be synchronised to avoid any complaints.

Fixtures for the season are here. Apologies to the Fox team who are referred to as the Fox B on the printed copies I did before I noticed the error.

This year we have a lot of byes / rest weeks due to the extra team, but I have managed to avoid the less desirable situations that could bring: No team has consecutive byes and all teams except one play on the last day. The last day bye in Div 2 is unavoidable and so the team who will sit it out was chosen at random - it just happens to be the (presumably) newbies H&H Hounds.

This considered scheduling of the last day also means that should we have any postponements due to weather then all remaining matches will be moved forward and the rounds played in the published order. This is different to last time, when the postponed round was moved to the end of the season, resulting in the unforeseen situation of one team having to sit out the last two games of the season. We’d better not have any delays anyway, otherwise we’ll have Easter in the way.

Anyway, that’s enough from me. Here’s to the start of our 21st season on the 7th!

AGM

03/10/11

Hi folks!

Firstly, apologies about the short notice but due to work commitments I’ve only just been able to finalize the date for the AGM. Because of this I’ve actually contacted everyone I have e-mail or mobile details for, whether or not they are the usual contact, just in case there are any delays with the usual pub / captain route.

The AGM will this year be on Monday 10th October at 8.30pm, again at the Wheatsheaf. The Agenda is here, and as usual topics can be raised and motions put forward on the night.

As always, all are welcome to come and have a say about any aspect of the Quiz and to hear what others are thinking. There is some interest from new teams this year, including an enquiry (via Michael at the H&H) from a pub in Alton who would like to play, and as this is outside our normal distance limit needs voting on.

As ever Mick and Barbara are offering a few refreshments, so could I ask anyone planning on attending to let me know (by phone, text or e-mail) so that we have some idea of numbers to expect on the night - thanks. Also could I ask teams not coming along to let me know whether they are going to be playing again this year (I’m sure you all will be!).

Also I’d like to point out that from now on I will primarily be using our new (OK re-acquired…) fiql.co.uk domain name (www.fiql.co.uk & mail@fiql.co.uk), so please be sure to update your bookmarks, contacts and safe senders lists as appropriate. The ferngreen addresses will be OK for a while, but I will withdraw them at some point to keep things simple (for me if no-one else!).

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 10th.
