Sorry about
the delay in sorting everything out - been stupidly busy this last week.
I’ll get
the paperwork out and this site updated properly in the next day or two, but until
then I’ll just say for anyone who didn’t yet know that we will be starting
again on 25th October, cost unchanged at £63.50.
Hi again folks!
It’s almost Quiz Time again, and the AGM will this year be on Monday 27th September at 8.30pm, again at the Wheatsheaf. The Agenda can be found here, and as usual topics can be raised and motions put forward on the night.
As always, all are welcome to come and have a say about any aspect of the Quiz and to hear what others are thinking.
Once again Mick and Barbara are offering a few refreshments, so could I ask anyone planning on attending to let me know (by phone, text or e-mail) so that we have some idea of numbers to expect on the night - thanks. Also could I ask teams not coming along to contact me and let me know whether they are going to be playing again this year (I’m sure you all will be!).
One other little point: I notice February 14th is a Monday next year, and in the past some pubs have put on Valentine’s Day events which have affected the quiz. If your pub is likely to be doing this, or indeed if there is anything else affecting your home venue, let me know and I’ll try my best to help when scheduling the fixtures.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 27th.
p.s.: unfortunately I have just been informed that the Golden Fleece will not be participating this year.
Last night
saw the 19th Annual Trophy Presentation and BFQ at the Wheatsheaf.
As usual, plenty of teams turned out to see out the season on a high note with the traditional Big Friendly Quiz and some splendid food laid on by our hosts, Mike and Barbara. A close-fought BFQ was finally won on a tie-break by a Lamb A / Cherry Tree A combined team.
Pictured are the two division-topping teams:
Ralph, Pat, Patrick and me from the Wheatsheaf A and Jo, Derek, Roger
and Robert of the Bat & Ball B.
I remembered to get a piece to the Herald, so keep an eye out for that in the next couple of weeks (I doubt I made the deadline today!). Hopefully it might result in an enquiry or two for next season.
Over the summer I’m going to look at
redesigning the website using more up-to-date tools, so if anyone has any
comments or suggestions feel free…
Finally, the AGM will be held at some
point before we start again next year! That’s all I can say at the moment.
Have a great summer and I hope to see you all again next year!
This year’s
presentation evening and BFQ is taking place on 12th April at
the Wheatsheaf.
As always,
it’s open to all involved in the quiz, not just the regular teams of 4 - spare
team members, QM’s, scorers, landlords, anyone can come along.
Presentation
will be at 8.30pm, with the beer-round style quiz to follow. As usual, I do ask
teams to let me know whether they will be attending or not and if so a rough
idea of numbers. Thanks.
Hope to see
plenty of you on the 12th!
Well,
nearly a disaster there but despite Lamb ‘B’ besting us tonight their A team did us a big favour and Wheatsheaf ‘A’ has won
division 1!
Second
place goes to the Cherry Tree ‘B’, sneaking in there to pick up runners-up
spot. Bat & ball ‘A’ were third.
In div. 2,
Bat & Ball ‘B’s triumph over Ball & Wicket ‘A’ mean that they win the
trophy, with Holly Bush coming second.
BFQ and
presentation is penciled in for 12/04, just have to have Mick and Bar confirm
the dates before I can say for certain.
See you all
in a couple of weeks hopefully.
Well folks,
that should have been the decider tonight but we still have the rescheduled
matches from January to play. Apologies to the Holly Bush, who have to sit out TWO
matches at the end of the season, thanks to the snow - I’m sorry not to have
spotted that and I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen in future, even if it does
entail changing the published fixtures.
Anyway,
after tonight’s results it looks to be between Wheatsheaf A and Bat & Ball
A for the Div 1 title, with the Bat & Ball B having won Div 2 since they surely
can’t possibly lose by over 65 points to the Ball & Wicket A whom they play
next week. Poor old Holly Bush have to sit and wait it out for the result of
that match to see if they can win promotion.
Last year’s
Div 2 champions Fox B have I’m afraid gone straight back down, but their A team
will need only a modest score - even if they lose - to relegate the Golden
Fleece, who also have to sit it out next week.
Sorry folks, Cherry Tree A were too busy celebrating their win to remember to phone me, and I was a little too busy enjoying our rest week with a case of Aspall’s to chase them up!
Sorry folks, forgot to publish after I updated the site last night!
Yet another late result, so posting this lot is delayed.
I’ve just
been around picking up and re-delivering last week’s questions ready for
Monday. Apart from the Golden Fleece (I’ll drop them round tomorrow) everyone
with a home game should have a copy of last week’s unplayed quiz to play this
Monday. Any problems let me know.
Don’t
forget, matches continue AS PUBLISHED. The missed week will be
rescheduled.
After a bit
of a look around this morning and reports from some of our further-flung
quizzers I’ve decided to abandon tomorrow’s fixtures.
These
matches will be rescheduled for 22nd March, other fixtures to
be played as published.
As
mentioned yesterday, we need to make sure any questions which DO make it
to the pubs later in the week are saved
for next week as we don’t want to pay out for another round again this year.
Please make sure your landlord or other quiz contact at the pub is aware of
this and I shall arrange to collect and redistribute the papers in due course.
I would as
usual appreciate it if each pub and / or team could contact me so I know
they’ve got the message. Thanks!
Well, at least it’s given me a bit more time to not decide what to do this time…
I’m going to wait until tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon before making any firm decisions. If it’s too treacherous then, or if there are firm forecasts of more snow for Sunday night or Monday I will call it all off!
If however it looks OK (town is OK at the moment I understand, not sure about the more outlying pubs) then we’ll try to go ahead on Monday with the proviso that if conditions or forecasts deteriorate then it’s all off.
There hasn’t been much post about so as far as Quiz Papers are concerned, if it’s good enough to play I’ll distribute emergency copies to the home pubs.
If we don’t go ahead and any questions do turn up at the
pubs during the week please keep them safe & unopened! Please advise your
pub of this if appropriate. I’ll collect them
and redistribute them for next week - we don’t want to have to fork out for an extra
set again this year if I can help it.
If anyone already thinks there isn’t a hope it should go ahead they’d better get in touch, otherwise watch this space…
Well that’s the last one before Christmas, hope you all have a great time and I’ll see you all next year!
Again I had a score missing last night so results are late again this week.
I’m sure everybody must know this, but could I remind everyone that the winning team is supposed to send the results in, and the earlier the better for me (texting them in straight away is best). I’ve never had to disqualify anyone yet but I do need my kip at times, especially after a bad result!
Sorry for the late posting of results today. There was a missed result last night & confusion about the score this morning and I was too tired to disqualify anyone!
Just to warn you that since FIQL has a postal bank account, I am not going to risk banking any of the subs cheques until there is a reasonably clear period without postal disruption expected.
Also, there are still a few subs outstanding, but I’m sure you’re on the case. If you too don’t trust the post, get in touch and I’ll make alternative arrangements.
Sorry, I got a Div. 1 score wrong last night (Cherry Tree derby match). Results page has been corrected.
At last, here are the fixture lists.
I’ve just heard that the Bourne RBL has not been able to muster a team this year, and will not be playing.
This is due I gather to the loss of several of their keenest players. It’s a real shame to say goodbye to a team which has been involved for such a long time (at least as long as I’ve been playing), and I hope they will be able find some support and rejoin next year. I’m sure all the other teams which have enjoyed the hospitality down on Burnthill Road will join me in hoping for their speedy return to the League.
Heart pills at the ready, but despite my massive recent work schedule we are going to start on time this year!
The new Season begins 26th October, fixture lists will be published here tomorrow and be out to the pubs ASAP.
I’ve put in place provision for the Postal Strike - a neutral (my sister actually, but she has nothing to do with the quiz) will print off and bag up the questions if the post goes all wrong, so no problems there.
Finally, a couple of teams have sent in their subs without completing the form properly - I really would like a contact or two from each team in case of sudden problems like last season’s snow - so if you don’t think I’ve got your contact details please let me have them ASAP. Cheers.
Well, here’s looking forward to the new season!
Profuse apologies for taking so long to update, but the Minutes of the AGM held on 21st September can be found here.
The new Season is set to begin 26th October and notifications are going out to Team Captains and/or Licensees tomorrow.
I’ve already heard from most teams that they intend to play again this year, but if you haven’t heard anything yet please get in touch with your Team Captain, Landlord or me.
