Rather short notice I know, but the AGM will be held on Monday 21st September at 8.30pm, again at the Wheatsheaf. Apologies for it being so late - I have a proper job at last and seem to have been busy, busy, busy for the last few weeks.
The Agenda can be found here, and again this year there are no rule changes or extraordinary items proposed. As usual, topics can be raised and motions put forward on the night but anyone wishing to table a detailed proposal may want to contact me beforehand so it can be printed up.
As always, all are welcome to come and have a say about any aspect of the Quiz and to hear what others are thinking.
Once again Mick and Barbara are offering a few refreshments, so could I ask anyone planning on attending to let me know (by phone, text or e-mail) so that we have some idea of numbers to expect on the night - thanks. Also could I ask teams not coming along to contact me and let me know whether they are going to be playing again this year (I’m sure you all will be!).
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 21st.
The annual Trophy Presentation and BFQ was held yesterday at the Fox Inn. Congratulations to the division winners Cherry Tree B and Fox B, who are pictured on the right, and also to the runners up Cherry Tree A and Fox A.
Cherry Tree B also won the quiz, this year beating the Wheatsheaf A by just one point.
Thanks go to landlady Sam, who provided some lovely Sausage ‘n’ Mash for the interval, which went down very well. All in all a fine evening.
Finally, as always, I can’t decide when to hold the AGM - watch this space and have a great summer!
The annual BFQ and Trophy Presentation will be held this year at the Fox Inn, on April 6th. Proceedings will kick off at 8.30pm sharp so please arrive in good time. As always the BFQ is open to anyone involved in the Quiz - question masters, occasional players, Landlords, anyone - and not just the regular teams: it’s all just for fun!
The landlady Sam has kindly offered to put on some hot food rather than the usual sarnies or finger buffet, so please also arrive with an appetite to do justice to the fare offered!
As in previous years it would be appreciated if teams would let me know as soon as possible whether they will be attending and, if so, roughly how many people. Cheers.
Well that’s the last fixture of the season, and the final results are:
Division 1:
Cherry Tree B - Winners
Cherry Tree A - Runners-up
Division 2:
Fox B - Winners
Fox A - Runners-up
Well done to the above teams, and thanks to everyone for playing this year.
Still haven’t had confirmation from the Fox, so watch this space for further details of the BFQ.
Firstly, apologies to Fox B for not noticing that they were actually unbeatable after last week but hey! - they’ve won Division 2! Congratulations!
Also this means that the Fox will be offered the BFQ this year. I’m aiming for the 6th April but I have to confirm this so details to follow.
Div 1 is still up for grabs - well realistically it’s between the two Cherry Tree teams - so next week decides all at the top!
Just a quick reminder about the rescheduled dates from February, which of course do not appear on the fixture lists. I’ve added them to the Fixtures and Results page for easy reference.
I trust that all the home pubs for that week are aware of the extra date. I’ll send out an e-mail next week to remind.
I’ve had approaches from a couple of TV quizzes seeking contestants.
Teams of three are required for BBC4’s Only Connect, the game of lateral thinking presented by Victoria Coren. Applications have to be in by 17 February, so anyone interested will have to be quick. Details, including an application form with sample questions, are here.
And as in previous years, for the very brave:
With all
this snow and forecasts of more to come and freezing temperatures I am calling
off all matches tonight. They will be rescheduled for the end of the
season.
I’ll now
try to contact all concerned. If you read this first I’d appreciate it if you’d
let me know so I can cross you off my list.
CLARIFICATION
Round 12
matches will be rescheduled for 23/03/09. Next week remains Week 13 as in the
fixture lists.
Also there
is no need to keep the unused questions from last night.
Somewhere
in the process last night the scores for the Bat & Ball A v Cherry
Tree B became reversed, so the Division 1 results & table I posted last
night were wrong. This has now been corrected.
Anyone
noticing last weeks headings on the results table (the eye-scrambling
blue-text-on-red) please be informed that it was to celebrate United’s drubbing
of Chelsea the previous weekend.
This weeks
red-text-on-blue carries on by highlighting Everton’s draw with the Scousers
which still keeps us top!
I’ve run
out of quiz stuff to write about!
Erm, well
that says it all I think!
Well that’s it until January now. Hope you all have
a great Christmas and I’ll see you all next year.
Please note
that from this week onwards the inner plastic bags around the Quiz
Questions are being phased out. This is due to problems sourcing suitable
supplies in the small quantities we require. As an additional safeguard an
extra sticker warning not to open the envelope will be placed over the sealed
flap, but please advise all quiz players and question masters that there will
be no further inner packaging and the envelope must not be opened until
the match begins.
Well at long last I have the Fixture Lists ready and for the first time in a while we’re starting on the originally stated date! It all kicks off on the 20th October, fixture lists have been sent out to the pubs and/or captains but you can also find them here. Sorry they weren’t out a bit earlier (and that I didn’t answer some of the e-mail enquiries) but I was laid low with a spot of food poisoning last week.
I would be most grateful if people could acknowledge that they are all ready-to-go, so that I don’t panic as much come Monday! Cheers!
Could I also ask that Landlords make sure that any staff who might open post are aware that the sealed questions will be arriving this week - most years we get one or two opened in error in the first week or two!
Oh, and there are still a few subs outstanding - but I’m sure they’re being dealt with…
Just realised I spent time updating, reorganising and checking these pages, then DIDN’T UPLOAD THEM.
What a berk…
Apologies.
The rather minimal Minutes of the AGM held on 8th September can be found here.
The new Season is set to begin 20th October and notifications have been sent out to Team Captains and/or Licensees as usual.
I’ve already had confirmation from almost all the teams that they intend to play again this year, so if you haven’t heard anything yet please get in touch with your Team Captain, Landlord or me, as you see fit and hopefully we can avoid any delays this year.
